Bubbles Update - Sadly,
although her wounds healed well and we got the infection under control, her confinement
was beginning to depress her and we were advised that it was in her best interests to
release her. The team took her to the beach one evening and returned her to the sea. They
remained there throughout the night and made two hourly checks to make sure she had not
been washed up. It opened our eyes to the conservation efforts being made and we have
since been back to help Smile for Life release hatchlings into the ocean.
We are very grateful to everyone who rallied
around to help Bubbles, it was gratifying to see how everyone pulled together for this one
turtle. Our sincere thanks go to everyone who helped Bubbles, so much can be achieved with
collaboration!
Swim your best Bubbles!

Bubbles the Green Sea Turtle - Omar from Smile
for Life The Gambia found Bubbles on the beach on one of his patrol walks. She was lying
on her back with all limbs tied up so she was unable to move. On closer examination he
discovered that all her flippers were damaged.
He contacted the GHDT in hope that we can help
as she clearly needed medical help.
Bubbles has been moved to the Makasutu centre
and an x-ray has shown broken bones in the front right flipper. We have since been
contacted by Turtle experts from all over the world, who are advising us on the best care
and treatment.
