In The Gambia traditionally it is the young boys who care for the donkeys. Many of them regard this as a chore. To try and make it more fun and at the same time build up a bond with their donkeys we introduced gymkhana games and Donkey Ball.
The children now have fun with their animals and regard them more as athletes and ensure that they have food and water regularly. It is a very big honour to be chosen to be on a donkey ball team and the children take a pride in their donkeys.
